Argos
In the UK, the name Argos is more synonymous with catalogue brands than exclusive hotels, but if you’re looking for a luxury hotel in Turkey then you can’t go wrong with Argos. The hotel has had several incarnations, once a monastery, the boutique hotel has also been a caravanserai and a linseed oil factory before finding its current position. With its hilltop location the Argos offers guests extraordinary views out over the fairy chimneys, with early risers able to catch a stunning glimpse of the many hot air balloons that frequent the area at dawn. Most of the suites benefit from their own private swimming pool within a cave, which provides guests with a refreshing start to the day.
Gamirasu
Gamirsu is another example of a luxury hotel in Turkey that celebrated a previous live as a Benedictine monastery. With the building dating from the 12th century, the Gamirasu enjoys a secluded position in the quiet village of Ayvali and is a perfect retreat for honeymooners or couples looking for a romantic break.
The hotel backs out onto a 7km walking track, which leads through a rich and verdant valley, providing stunning views out over Cappadocia. Although meandering through this trail is an excellent way to spend a lazy afternoon, guests looking for something a little different can arrange cycle tours or horse rides if they desire. However, you choose to explore the valley there’s simply nothing as rewarding as coming back to the Gamirasu’s legendary restaurant. Sumptuous Anatolian cuisine is created with organic local produce and guests have the choice between taking their meal in the indoor restaurant or on an outdoor terrace with breathtaking views out over the surrounding caves and gorge.
